Product Detail

The extraordinary work of Tangimoe Clay (Te Whakatōhea/Ngāti Ngahere/Te Whakatōhea) intertwines the traditions of the past with the innovation of the future, creating sculptural, wearable, practical masterpieces with Aotearoa’s own native plants as her materials. Born and based in Ōpōnae in Waioeka Gorge, Clay’s love for harakeke (flax) first took root amongst her marae’s plantation where she first learned of the many varying types and uses for harakeke. Nurtured by her kuia (female elder) Maggie Tai, Clay’s love grew and blossomed into her own raranga (weaving) practice, experimental artworks, and ownership of the Tangata Whenua Gallery in Ōpōtiki where she sells her own artworks as well as those of other magnificent Māori creators.
