Moana Heru
JewelleryProduct Detail
At once a bountiful source of food and a passageway across the islands, the ever-changing nature of the moana (ocean) is reflected in the swirling curves of this gorgeous 4-pronged heru. Inspired by whānau (family) and the natural wilderness of Aotearoa’s West Coast, Bruce Haussman (Ngāti Whātua) of West Carver began carving traditional Māori ornamental combs known as heru as a gift for his granddaughters. His passion for art, aroha (love), and taonga (treasures) is imbued in every gentle curve of his lovingly handcrafted hardwood pieces, made to last and be loved for many years to come.
Each heru has been made by hand from a variety of wood and is one of a kind. Variations in the colour may occur as a result. This only adds to the unique beauty and character of each piece.
