Dane Mitchell’s solo exhibition Iris, Iris, Iris is the focus of the publication MAM Project 024. Iris, Iris, Iris was co-commissioned by the Mori Art Museum, Tokyo and Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki, and the accompanying catalogue, with texts in English and Japanese, reflects this partnership. The multi-part installation, the result of Mitchell’s research into scent production, explores the diverse meanings of the word ‘iris’: the name of a flower, the coloured part of an eye, the adjustable aperture of a camera and Greek mythology’s rainbow goddess.
The catalogue contains installation views from the exhibition, transcripts of research sessions between the artist and president of Shoyeido Incense Co, along with essays by Kataoka Mami (Chief Curator, Mori Art Museum) and Zara Stanhope (Formerly Principal Curator, Auckland Art Gallery).
