This A4 print of The British Channel Seen from the Dorsetshire Cliffs, 1871 by John Brett (1831–1902) brings the natural world indoors. Painted from detailed notes, sketches and studies made while Brett sailed England's southwest coast in summer, Brett captures the seascape with scientific rigour, detailing the rich blue ocean, soft rays of the sun and shade cast by passing cumulus clouds.
