The Fauvist painter Henri Matisse met dancer, musician and painter Henriette Darricarrère on a film set in Nice and produced numerous studies of her throughout the 1920s. In this study, Darricarrère looks nonchalantly toward the viewer, enveloped in loosely painted dabs of fuchsia, mauve, apricot and indigo. Those colours leap off the canvas to adorn these miniature vases by ceramicist Hauland, perfect for displaying a posy or as a stand-alone work of art.
