Auckland Volcanoes Puzzle
Auckland Volcanoes Puzzle
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is proud to collaborate with Lettuce to release these wonderful new puzzles. These puzzles allow you to get up close with fantastic New Zealand art.
Harken back to a time before satellite photos, before long winding motorways, before many storied buildings, when the tallest figures across Auckland’s horizon were the many maunga around us and the closest thing to playing games on your phone was settling down with a good old puzzle. Piece together the expert handiwork of Ferdinand von Hochstetter with this puzzle of his map The Isthmus of Auckland, with Its Extinct Volcanoes, drawn back in 1859 to chart a land on the precipice of transformation. Relax your busy mind full of modern worries as you collaborate with von Hochstetter to recreate his beautifully detailed map of Tāmaki Makaurau from nearly 200 years ago, a poetic reminder of the steady constants in our lives hit by a whirlwind of change.
