Tapawhā Pounamu Earrings
Te Ua Hamuera’s (Tainui Waikato, Ngāti Porou) carving journey began with a desire to create sacred and unique taonga for his tamariki. His path led him to Queenstown, where he and his brother met a pounamu carver who gifted them a journey up the awa where their stones called to them. Once they found their pounamu, they were taught to carve. From this experience, Hamuera Brothers Studio was born. Te Ua now works alongside his brother and is passing down the art of carving to his son, continuing the tradition in a true whānau-based business.
Each piece of pounamu jewellery has been made by hand and is one of a kind. Variations in the colour and shape of the pounamu stone may occur as a result. This only adds to the unique beauty and character of each piece.
