Wallace Cotton x Toi o Tāmaki Maud Nightie

We’re delighted to have collaborated with Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki to create a sleepwear range that celebrates the beauty of art. Our collections often feature unique designs created in-house and the Auckland Art Gallery is Aotearoa’s most comprehensive art institution. From their New Zealand collection, Maud Sherwood’s 1921 painting ‘Reading’ is centred on a woman reading a book and wearing a Japanese kimono featuring bold, abstract florals on a muted blue base. Together we chose this painting for our collaboration as the beautiful kimono effortlessly translates from the canvas to a garment range, embracing the fashion of the era and making it still relevant today. Our limited-edition Maud Sherwood sleepwear range was hand-painted in-house using layers of acrylic paint in broad brush strokes, the deep moody hues and hints of cream and coral reference Maud Sherwood’s painting style and palette. Crafted from luxuriously soft modal, our Maud Sherwood Nightie is an elegant full length style with gentle bust gathers, adjustable straps, a curved hemline and soft back elastic for wearing in comfort.
