Two essays discuss the themes and concerns in Culbert’s practice, linking his work to the ideas of New Zealand and international art educationalists and philosophers, including James Coe, Maurice de Sausmarez, Martin Heidegger and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. A generous plate section illustrates key works in the exhibition, including two installations never before presented in New Zealand.
