Kuki Reka Kani - Kawakawa
Kuki Reka Kani - Kawakawa
These adorable cookie cutters are sure to put a smile on your face – and that’s even before you hear the heartwarming story behind them. They’re the creation of Rauawaawa Kaumātua Charitable Trust, a Waikato non-profit organisation that supports the wellbeing of kaumāta (elders). Each design was inspired, developed and named by kaumātua with dementia, as part of a cooking therapy initiative that helped connect them with te ao Māori (the Māori world) and whakapapa (genealogy) in a fun, social way. Resembling whakairo rākau (wood carving), every pattern and shape tells a story of food, memory and connection – which continues each time they’re used in your kitchen. Proceeds help the Trust build a safer, warmer age-friendly care facility for kaumātua, turning every cookie you bake into a small act of aroha (love).
