Featuring the work of artist Luo Yongjin, this bookmark is a contemplative keepsake from the exhibition Forever Tomorrow.
Influenced by Henri-Cartier Bresson, Luo Yongjin began his career as a portrait photographer. He shifted to architectural photography in the 1990s after observing the way that residential buildings of different periods reflected the shifts in social classes across China.
Lotus Block is part of Luo’s Chinese City Scape series, 1998–2002, which documented various building developments in Beijing at the height of the city’s transformation. He regularly visited the construction site over four years, each time taking 60 photographs from the same position and angle. Luo then assembles these images into a single composition illustrating the passage of time and the obliteration of the past.
