Pat Hanly Wonder Puzzle
Pat Hanly Wonder Puzzle
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is proud to collaborate with Lettuce to release these wonderful puzzles. These puzzles allow you to get up close with fantastic New Zealand art.
Renowned for his paintings’ exuberant colour and spontaneity, Pat Hanly believed that art could be electrifying, illuminating and cosmic. Channelling the radical, free-thinking energy of the 1970s and 80s, his paintings, prints and drawings from this time sought to find a universal language to express visions of a harmonious, utopian world.
In Wonder, reoccurring motifs from Hanly’s art float in an evocative, timeless universe: a heart with an all-seeing eye, a star, a moon, a dove, a child. Offering up a symbolic constellation of life, wisdom, hope and love for contemplation, Wonder is part of a series of works completed shortly after the birth of Hanly’s daughter. Reflecting upon the life-affirming nature of this experience, Wonder encourages us to see the world around us with the fresh joy and wonder of a child, to discover the remarkable visual adventures in our everyday.
