Picasso Femme Assise aux Bras Croisés Print
Picasso Femme Assise aux Bras Croisés Print
Seated amidst an interplay of verticle stripes is Marie-Thérèse Walter, Picasso’s companion at the time, whom he had secretly installed with their baby daughter Maya in an old house in the town of Le Tremblay-sur-Mauldre, an hour north of Paris, far away from his wife Olga Khohklova from whom he had separated.
Here, the profile and the front merge to form a single face, the pupil of the right eye appearing to stick out from the eyelid like a tongue. Twisted in the same way, the hat takes on the curious shape of a propeller.
