Picasso Homme a la Cigarette Print
Picasso Homme a la Cigarette Print
From May 1964, Picasso produced a series of casual paintings and drawings of male portraits, first in profile and then frontally or in three-quarter view, clad in blue and white striped fisherman’s shirts. The subject linked Picasso to his adopted coastal life on the Mediterranean, coinciding with his rethinking of his own life and the many personae of his artistic and romantic career. Many of these virile figures in their ‘Breton shirts’ feature Picasso’s omnipresent cigarette and penetrating stare, a clue to his powerful identification with the theme.
