Picasso Nature Morte a la Guitare Print
Picasso Nature Morte a la Guitare Print
Amid a patchwork of overlapping ‘cut-out’ shapes is the negative form of a guitar, with a section of horizontally striped paper that occupies the place of its strings. This image is part of a series that Picasso embarked on in November 1919 in which he used cut-outs to investigate the essential idea of a guitar. The negative space that indicates the instrument’s form emphasises its loss of materiality, but at the same time we are reminded that it is essentially the space within the instrument that is the source of its resonance and sound.
